Crise alimentaire en vue

Richard Heinberg explique les 4 raisons pourquoi nous nous dirigeons vers une crise alimentaire sans précédents au niveau planétaire:

1. Augmentations des prix du pétrole impactent les prix des aliments (diesel, engrais, insecticides et transport)
2. Compétition des sols avec les bio carburants et augmentation de la demande
3. Changements climatiques impactent la productivité des sols (sécheresses, inondations, etc). Les réserves mondiales de grains sont au plus bas depuis 25 ans.
4. Disponibilité de l’eau: la sur-exploitation fait en sorte que l’eau potable est de plus en plus rare.

[Guardian] Riots and hunger feared as demand for grain sends food costs soaring

The risks of food riots and malnutrition will surge in the next two years as the global supply of grain comes under more pressure than at any time in 50 years, according to one of the world’s leading agricultural researchers.

“Demand is running away. The world has been consuming more than it produces for five years now. Stocks of grain - of rice, wheat and maize - are down at levels not seen since the early 80s,” said von Braun, whose organisation is the world’s largest alliance of agricultural researchers, economists, and policy experts.
